Aeons ago the valley was called "New Port".
Not that there was or is another port in the neighborhood and so just port
would have been enough.
Not that there is anybody to remember this name and so even no name would be
sufficient.
But with New Port it was like always: the name was given, it was used and at the
end it was forgotten.
By the way, the planet was titled by humans Eden-1387 or shortened just Eden.
Maybe you have heard about it, but I bed you havn't. And only to complete this
information completly unimportant to you and to me and to everybody else,
the natives are calling the planet "Cr'grdd"
which means Terra or Earth or something similar. By the way this is an universal
principle: all intelligent lifeforms are calling their planet Terra or Earth or
something similar.
So far, so good:
Aeons ago the valley was called "New Port", but this is long ago (aeons I
guess).
The valley opens to a plane field over time build up as a wonderful park and
recreation area forming a bay opening to the southern ocean.
Today it is a desert only, a huge beach so to say. Unfortunatly the southern
ocean dried out as well and so the park is nowadays a beach without ocean,
probably the most useless thing one can even think of.
Just the natives (the "Cr'g") are happy about the current situation. The Cr'g
are very well accustomed to a desert - in fact they do hate water - and so they
love the valley formerly known as New Port and they love the former park and
they love the former southern ocean which are nowadays a bright desert.
